Hair coloring?

i am planning to get my hair colored i naturally have very dark long thick hair it's a really dark brown look black to the naked eye and i'm think about going to a chocolate brown i am have it colored professionally cuz i wouldn't dare mess with it myself my question is i have heard that you should not wash your hair 2 days prior to coloring nor use any conditioner is this true and are there any other tips?Hair coloring?
You could call and ask the girl/guy that is going to be doing that way they can tell you what is best.Hair coloring?
My sister and sister-in-law are both licensed cosmetologists and both say to not wash your hair at least two days before coloring because the natural oils in hair protect it from chemical damage and it colors better. I tried it and it did come out better, especially since mine is very dark brown and hard to color. Also, they said to give it a deep conditioning (for colored hair types) once a week to keep the color true.

(and just between you and me, no, I'm not white. In fact, that bugged me more than the other stuff you called me! I may not the sharpest tack in the shed but they do know about hair coloring more than me, so I did make an effort to give you a solid answer. I'm not always a smarta$$!)
Going to a lighter brown shouldn't be a problem; the only issue is when you go more than 2 levels lighter than the natural level. This creates reddish undertones and it's harder to counteract this above 2 levels.

Also, it's best to not shampoo 12-24 hours before any chemical service. Reason is that shampooing removes the skin's acid mantle. This a protective layer on the skin and it takes 12-14 hours for the body to replace it. What happens if you do wash before a color is that it may sting, burn, or itch more than normal.

Yes you can condition the hair. There are lots of companies who design entire haircare lines for color treated hair. They're developed to help extend the life of your color.
i dye my hair on a regular basis and have never heard of either of those. I wash my hair the day of and if you don't it's not a problem. It just makes your scalp more able to be itchy while the dye is in your hair. They also wash your hair with conditioner after they have dyed it, so it will do no harm.
