When a hair coloring box says ';not recommended'; for your hair color what does it mean?

I bought Loreal Paris excellence creme in Lightest Ultimate Blonde to give myself some highlights, but when I got it home it says ';Brown to black hair: not recommended'; does that mean it'll turn my hair red or something? No I think it just means that it may not have a great effect since you really have to bleach dark brown hair to get it blonde. First of all, it's probably better to get a highlighting kit with a tool for making streaks (maybe you did this I couldn't tell from your description) and/or get a hair color made for dark hair, I think maybe clairol or something has a line called ';born blonde'; made for dark hair which contains bleach and some highlighting kits (garnier nutrisse) also is formulated to make dark hair lighter/blondeWhen a hair coloring box says ';not recommended'; for your hair color what does it mean?
It means you won't get the same result as the box shows. It will actually make your hair orange, not blonde.





For blonde highlights, you need a highlight kit which contains specially-formulated bleach for your hair. You can also buy the powdered bleach and accelerator at a beauty supply store and it's cheaper that way.
It means that the results that you get on your hair will probably we different from the ones that it shows. I have dark brown hair naturally and I got a hair lightener and it said that it wasn't recommended for dark brown hair so my hair turned out a little reddish but I liked it haha. So it depends, maybe you should try it on a little streak of your hair to see how it turns out.

i say...life's too short to worry about what happens to your hair. so do it. since you're going for streaks anyways, i'm sure you could compensate for it or cover it up with a lighter color.

It just means that your hair is so dark that this color won't turn it the color that's on the box. I'm sure it will give you some highlights just don't expect to turn light blond.
More likely will turn it orange.





The bleach that is in it is not strong enough to get darker hair to the shade of blonde that is on the box.
