What is demi permanent hair coloring?

I've been looking at questions about getting rid of highlights in a less harmful way than dyeing, and a lot of answers mention demi permanent coloring. Can someone explain what this is? thanks in advanceWhat is demi permanent hair coloring?

I used it a lot when my hair was recovering from some blond streaks I bleached into it by mistake. First I had to use a protein filler, then the demi-permanent color. I did both of these weekly for a month, and then finally I didn't need to do it anymore.What is demi permanent hair coloring?
Demi-perm color is color deposit with no lift. Permanent color both lifts and deposits color - in other words the ';lift'; or the developer you mix with it opens up your hairs cuticle to deposit the color. This causes it to be permanent. With demi-perm, there is no lift or opening of the cuticle so it will be temporary on VIRGIN hair (or hair that has not previously been colored or lightened)





When you use demi-perm color on hair that has previously been lightened like your highlighted hair, it will be permanent because the cuticle has already been opened. That is why everyone has suggested you use the demi-perm on the highlighted hair. If you use permanent color on hair that has previously been highlighted, it will not stay. It would be like lifting it twice.

it lasts a couple of month but it fades out way to much.
