I really want to color my hair, but it's a pretty specific color that I want. I would like to just do it at home, but I'm worried that it won't turn out, however I don't necessarily want to pay the high prices of a salon. So, basically I just want all the pros and cons of both ways. Thanks! What are the advantages/disadvantages of hair coloring at home versus at a salon?
Advantages of going to the salon:
Experienced colorist coloring your hair
Less risk of hair damage
Percentage of your color coming out right is higher
They carry professional products that can make the color come out richer, shinier, and healthier
Disadvantages of coloring at salon:
Pricey
Advantages of coloring at home:
Privacy
Cheaper
Disadvantages of coloring at home:
Higher risk of hair damage
Color may not come out exactly like you want
I mean you basically just answered your own question, but either way there always a risk of the color not coming out right, but it's less of a chance when you go to the beautician. I'm sure you'll make the right decision....Good luckWhat are the advantages/disadvantages of hair coloring at home versus at a salon?
store bought hair dyes tend to have more peroxide in them which can dry out your hair and make it limp. i always have a hair dresser do it. plus you can tell them exaclty what you want and get it, you can also ask them to make the dye with less peroxide.
if you're dying at home and it's a dark color...you might totally stain up your bathroom/sink
Honestly, I prefer to dye my hair at home with professional grade products. First, the hair color samples you see in salons will not be your end result depending on the natural color. Those samples are dyed onto white or light blonde hair. If you have darker hair the color will look different. So keep that in mind when choosing the color. I get all my supplies at Sally's (which really a professional supply store that will sell to the public) and pay $7-$10 as opposed to the $70 I paid at the salon to get the color done. Otherwise the results I get with dying my hair myself is no different than the results I got at the salon.
The advantage of going to the salon is that you have the attention of somebody who is trained in hair care. If you have really dry or damaged hair or have questions about the right shade for your complexion, the stylist will be better prepared to offer assistance in these areas. Plus a stylist has a better view of your entire head and there is less of a chance that part of your hair will be missed in the dying process.
I've been dying my hair myself for 15+ years. My hair is long, thick and very soft and shiney. As long as you don't leave the developer/dye mixture on too long and leave ample time between dye jobs (4-6 weeks depending on how fast your roots come in), your hair won't get any more damaged as it would if you had it done in a salon.
its not just about the colors and the mixtures. salons also use chemicals that are less harmful to the hair. i have a gal friend who is a hair stylist and does my hair at home but with salon products instead of the ones that come from a box. salons also use specific shampoo's, conditioners and deep conditioning to prepare you hair for coloring.
If you insist on the ';do it your self look '; go for a colour that requires no mixing , the mixing is what can cause a Disaster .
Dont try to bleach your hair your self ,if you leave it to long your hair can fall off thats the worst case or you look scary
I can always tell a do it your self and a Salon look .
look for a colour that compliments your skin tone . The Clariol hair colours are the best on any hair type.
one more thing buy a darker colour to so if you dont like your result , go dark till you can afford to do it professionally .
if you color your hair at home and dont understand the colors that complement each other to fix it if you make a mistake you will have to go to a salon to get it fixed anyway.however if you do understand it you will save time and money.just be careful because if left on to long it could fry your hair(dry and breakage)make sure you condition a couple of weeks reaay good if you do it at home.this will help strengthen your hair.
At a salon, you get what you want, the way you want, when you want.
At home, you might not have everything you need, or it might not turn out right.
I would spend the money and go to a salon. It cant make you go broke can it?
Go to a salon but before that try to find a discount coupon. If you do it yourself chances are that you won't be so pleased with the out come and that will ruin your weeks. It's not worth it.
A salon knows what they're doing. You probably don't! If you take pics of the specific color they can match it. Doing it yourself is harder than it looks, and the dye is much chepaer and lower quality. You get what you pay for.
there are always the chance where u can mess up ur hair. and highlights are hard to get done at home
have a good day.
